A sower went out to sow her seeds...9 years after the honor and the learning that was my participation in the first workshop of Parable of the Sower, the opera by Bernice Johnson Reagon and Toshi Reagon, it is a moving feeling to take the stage with this ensemble to carry Octavia Butler's prescient work around this globe amidst her healing crisis and ours. To use sound and movement to plumb Humanity's potential to re-imagine and to re-direct ourselves, to shape our reality. What a call this work exerts, to each of us to ask deeper and more urgently of ourselves how we can commit to our shared destiny, without succumbing to the temptation toward numbness, instead rising toward the courageous embrace of difference, truth, emotional accountability, wisely deployed power, and communal improvisation.
